The overall weight of the Petzl Quark Ice Axe at 550grams is a really great weight to get the balance between being heavy enough to feel nice sinking into hard waterfall ice, and being light enough to carry in the mountains as a technical mountaineering tool. 

The Hammer version of the Petzl Quark is great for knocking in those pitons or knocking out those stuck nuts. They're also great for hammering in stakes for anchors or tent pegs when the snow is getting particularly crusty.
